SWEETWATER, Tenn. — Product innovation doesn’t always mean reinventing a proven solution. Sometimes, it means listening carefully to the contractors who install it every day.
AEROFLEX Self-Seal is a pre-slit, closed-cell EPDM pipe insulation designed to reduce heat gain and loss, control condensation, and improve energy efficiency on mechanical piping systems.Aeroflex USA has announced enhancements to its AEROFLEX Self-Seal Pipe Insulation designed to help insulators install faster in a wider range of demanding jobsite conditions. The updated product features a redesigned Quick-Release Lap Tape with a thinner, more flexible outer seal and an extended-release liner that simplifies removal. They also partnered with Avery Dennison, a global leader in high-performance adhesives and tapes, to incorporate its COLD TOUGH™ Adhesive Technology, expanding approved installation temperatures to as low as 0°F [-18ºC], compared to a previous minimum installation temperature of 40°F [4ºC]. This will help reduce weather-related scheduling challenges or delays, giving contractors greater flexibility to keep projects on schedule.
Mechanical insulation contractors rely on closed-cell elastomeric pipe insulation to improve energy efficiency, control condensation, protect piping systems, and meet the performance requirements of commercial HVAC, refrigeration, chilled water, and plumbing installations.
Customer Feedback Shapes AEROFLEX Self-Seal Product Improvements
Rather than redesigning a product already trusted for its thermal performance and moisture resistance, Aeroflex USA focused on refining one of the most frequent interactions installers have with the product: the self-seal closure system, helping crews work more efficiently while maintaining the trusted thermal and condensation-control performance that has made AEROFLEX EPDM™ closed-cell elastomeric insulation a preferred choice for HVAC systems, refrigeration piping, chilled water piping, VRF systems, hot and cold domestic water plumbing, and other commercial and industrial mechanical piping applications.
In ongoing conversations with mechanical insulation contractors across North America, they consistently valued long-term performance and quality of AEROFLEX® insulation. Many also expressed interest in an easier-to-use self-seal closure system that could improve installation efficiency and provide greater flexibility during colder weather installations. That’s where Aeroflex USA saw an opportunity, not only to introduce a new feature, but to make an already trusted product even more practical for the realities of today’s jobsites.
“Around here, we like to say, ‘The best just got better,’ but the reason that is so meaningful is because our customers help define what ‘better’ looks like,” said Sam Stamatis, General Manager of Sales and Marketing of Aeroflex USA. “Contractors told us they wanted an easier and faster install self-seal closure system and the ability to install in colder conditions. We listened. These enhancements are the direct result of those conversations, and they reflect our commitment to continuously improving the products insulators rely on every day. For Aeroflex USA, product development doesn’t end when a product reaches the market. It continues through conversations with contractors, distributors, and engineers who install, distribute, and specify it every day.”
Faster Pipe Insulation Installation in Cold-Weather Jobsite Conditions
The installation experience has been enhanced while maintaining the product’s core performance, delivering the same quality customers have come to expect from AEROFLEX Self-Seal Pipe Insulation, including long-term thermal efficiency, condensation control, low water vapor permeability, and durability.
Quick-Release Lap Tape and 0°F Installation Capability
The updated AEROFLEX Self-Seal Pipe Insulation features a new American-made Quick-Release Lap Tape with a thinner, more flexible outer seal and extended-release liner for faster removal. With Avery Dennison COLD TOUGH™ Adhesive Technology, the product is approved for installation in temperatures as low as 0°F [-18ºC], compared to the previous minimum installation temperature of 40°F [4ºC].
Codes, Standards, Certifications and Sustainability Documentation
The product maintains its 25/50 flame spread and smoke developed rating through 2-inch [50 mm] wall thickness in accordance with ASTM E84, UL 723, and CAN/ULC-S102, is GREENGUARD Gold Certified for low chemical emissions, contributes to owner sustainability requirements with environmental product declarations (EPD’s) and a health product declaration (HPD), and complies with Build America, Buy America (BABA) and Buy American Acts.
